Our Church Buildings are re-opening!

Visiting St Martin's or St Stephen's for Individual Prayer

We are delighted to be able to open our churches once more to visitors. Opening times from Monday 22nd June will be:

  • St Martin's: Monday to Friday, 09:00am to Midday

Visitors will be permitted to enter for individual prayer* only - and you must bring your own Bible or prayer book for this purpose. All are welcome but please be mindful of government advice if you are defined as vulnerable, which includes individuals aged 70 years and older and those with certain chronic conditions including diabetes, respiratory or heart disease, and obesity.

Health precautions

The church doors will be latched open and we will provide hand sanitiser for you to wash your hands when you enter and before you leave the building - please use it.

You must observe the 2 metre rule throughout your visit. In order to maintain social distancing, there will be signs inside church which you will be asked to follow, and a steward will be on hand to guide you.

To further reduce the risk of infection, there will be no refreshments or toilet facilities available to visitors, and there will be no play spaces for children.

All visitors will be asked to sign in - so please bring a pen to enter your contact details in the visitors' book. And remember, you should not leave home if you are showing symptoms of Covid-19 (a new continuous cough, a high temperature or a loss of, or change in, your sense of taste or smell) due to the risk that you might pose to others.

The church will be cleaned regularly to safeguard the health of visitors and stewards.

Planning your visit

There will be a one-way system in place at St Martin's - so please enter via the main entrance (the glass doors facing Church Street) and leave via the north door.

Currently the car park at the front of St Martin's is lightly used and there are usually spaces for two hours of free parking. In Langley Vale, there is off-street parking outside the village hall next door to St Stephen's. Both churches have steps up to the front door - but step-free access to St Martin's is possible from Grove Road. If you require step free access to St Martin's, you may enter through the north door.

* Individual prayer within a place of worship is defined as a person or household entering the church to pray on their own and not as part of a group, led prayer or communal act. They should be socially distanced from other individuals or households. Collective or communal prayer and regular scheduled services are not permitted at this time; this includes a Minister of Religion or lay person leading devotions or prayer of any sort.
